Baltistan (Little Tibet)
skardu is the capital town of
Baltistan . It is 2438 meters above sea level in the backdrop
of the great peaks of the Karakuram mountain range. Skardu is
approachable from Islamabad buy PIA, which operates a Booing
737 aircraft on daily basis. the valley is also accessible by
road . NATCO and many other transport companies operate
regular bus coach service from Rawalpindi/Islamabad to Skardu and Gilgit to
Skardu and vice versa. Historically, Baltistan was know as
little Tibet , Traditions, music and life style of people here
still reflects past glories of the ' Land of Lamas'. from
Skardu one can travel to Shigar, Khpulo and Kharmang through NATCO
coaster service.
Baltistan is known from its high
mountains, broad valleys and huge glaciers. Skardu is the
launching pad of all treks and expeditions heading to K2 and
route Shigar valley. it is the only place on the planet
where 32 high peaks are located within a radius of 40 km . Polo is the
most popular sport in Baltistan. best time to Travel is
April to September.
Shigar Vally
The Shigar
Valley, 32 kms (20 miles) from Skardu and 2 hours by jeep, is
watered by the Shigar River. It forms the gateway to the great
mountain
peaks of the
Karakoram, including Mount K-2. The valley has an extremely
picturesque
landscape, and abounds in fruit such as grapes, peaches, pears.
Khaplu
Khaplu is the District
Headquarter of Ghancha. The town is famous for its historical
places including forts and mosques. khaplu is known for its
friendly, Sincere and fun loving people.
